I have a laptop with a light surrounding the mouse touch pad.
Is there any way to turn it off permanently, without opening up the laptop and cutting the power to the LED?

Everytime I turn it on I have to use the keyboard combination Fn + F7 to turn it off which his very annoying.

Is there a way in Windows 7 that I could execute that command at startup?

You can see a picture of the laptop here:

This wouldn't be a Win7 function since this is custom hardware done by the laptop manufacturer.

The only thing I would suggest is poking around in the settings for the touch pad and see if there is a setting to disable the LED.

It's also possible that they hid the setting in another device too.

Unfortunately the only advice I can give you is to start poking around in the settings of the various devices.

As I was writing htis I also thought it might be in the BIOS of the machine. So, I'd check there too.

SOrry I couldn't give you a more detailed solution.

I checked the BIOS it's definitely not in there.
I doubt it's in the settings for Windows 7, I did look around but I'm sure Windows 7 doesn't assume there is a light around the touchpad to enable or disable.

I really just wanted to know if there was a file I could edit, like autoexec.bat so that it would run the keyboard shortcut command on startup.

When I was talking about settings I was refering to settings for the hardware specific device drivers, not Windows 7 itself. (Sorry I wasn't more clear)

As far as I know, there it nothing built into Win7 to be able to send keystrokes automatically. However, I'm sure a program could be found to do that.

I believe that to simulate the Fn+F7 key combination you should be able to send Scroll Lock+F7. This is because there is no defined windows virtual key code for Fn and some laptops obey the scroll lock key as if it were the Fn key.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I tried using Scroll Lock and F7 but it asked me if I wanted to turn Caret browsing on so I guess it doesn't work the same way.

Thanks for trying...

As mentioned, this isn't a Windows 7 option. It is controller by the hardware or properietary software of the laptop manufacturer. If anyone would know if a way to do so, it would be them, so I'd contact your OEM or find out if they have support forums.

Yeah but I don't want to have to turn off the switch :)

I was just more interested in programming the computer to press keys on startup which I think seems possible now!
