I like wood, for the same reason mentioned above -- pets. Damn Cat (Queen of All She Surveys) must walk & sit & sleep upon every flat surface in the house... every single day. A glass stand would quickly be one giant, smeary mess of cat foot & butt prints. So I made one out of an old door. Works fine!
