two "Unallocated Space" partitions with 0MB

If you really want to control the partitions the installer adds, have a look through the info below.


Whether you use diskpart to run either the clean all command to completely wipe a HDD / SSD or just the clean command to remove the format configuration data and don't use diskpart to create at least a single partition to do the installation to, letting the Windows installer do the format you will end up with the new Windows 7 System Reserved partition, if you want to make your own decision whether this partition is added, study these two (2) options below.

• Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
• If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.

Either way, running the "clean all" then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

Well, if we go by Disk Management, those zero partitions are non existant.

True. Maybe we should just ignore them!
I deleted the main, then the unallocated removed totally, but when I re-created the main one, they were back.

In my previous post, When I said delete them, I meant delete every last format (because you had the windows install open, I assumed you were asking for your install). During the install of windows, If you delete all of the formats, all the partitions, all the unallocated space, it should all form unallocated space. then you select your drives and format in order to install windows. It sounds like you've already done all this, but once that is done, if windows (or rather, your drive) creates anything else, than it is needed, or as everyone else says, a phantom. I believe it is to do with your drive and not windows, but there isn't much that can be done about that.

I haven't ever seen windows create unallocated space, and don't believe it does. However, sometimes windows DOES create another partition for system files. Unallocated space, 0MB or more, is not another partition, for clarity. I would in this case blame the drive, not windows. But I wouldn't worry so much about it, especially because it is only 0MB, and, if I heard correctly, doesn't show in Computer Management

I wouldn't reinstall just because of this non-issue, it that's the case.

Nah, it's more like I want to go from 32-bit to 64-bit to use all my memory.
Oh and, will Windows 7 or the computer get damaged or something by Reinstalling Windows 7 several of times? I did that in the past, and I just wanted to know!

You can do as many clean installs as you like without issue.

Just to be sure, if you have 4GB memory or less, you might as well keep the 32 bit version of windows. If you have more, that is when the 64bit comes in handy, when it starts utilizing all that extra memory.

Yes, having 4GB or less is perfect for 32 bit. More than 4GB memory and you will need 64 bit

I know this is an old thread but I just had the same thing. In the end what sorted it was - in parted magic I deleted partitions. Then partitioned to NTFS. Then went into the drive wipe section and wiped the Mir not the whole drive - just the mbr). Then went to install W7 and just the usual partitions . So it is something to do with the way the disk has been formatted previously, the master boot record and possibly disk and bios thingies. It was a new drive in mine that had previously had Linux on but had deleted partitions previously. Anyway - it was an easy fix and before that I couldn’t load windows 10 at all.

FYI: PerfectDisk Pro trial version is excellent for resizing partitions, especially shrinking Windows OS that places system data at the end of the partition that normally cannot be moved otherwise. If you shrink the partition without moving that data, your system will not boot and the data is lost. (I experienced this completing one of my college course study lessons & after much ado, arrive at perfect disk)

BTW: if you install and uninstall PerfectDisk Pro with Revo Uninstaller, you can use the trial version again if you ever need to.
