when typing any messages the cursor is likely to jump and type text anywhere. any ideas how to stop it

You might be resting your palm on the laptops trackpad. You can try and disable the trackpad while typing and see if that helps.

Hi there ... Welcome to Seven Forums .... Check in the Control Panel /Mouse/ Pointer/Options/ Un-Check: "Hide Pointer While Typing" check box. Click Apply

It does look like your using a laptop and where it is located Left of center and so your left palm is most like likely interfering,
Adjusting the sensitivity and look to see if it has Palm touch setting would be a good idea,
Hiding the pointer while type will probably help not see the movement but if you find yourself loosing focus while typing it would be another annoyance,
But once you get to Control panel and Mouse go to Device settings,

Once there Palm check is on the bottom of the list on my system,

It's always my left thumb that hits the *&^%$$#@! touch pad. I disable the misbegotten POS whenever I boot up the machine. Changing settings didn't work on my machine; I can't even permanently disable it or have it automatically disable when a mouse present (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble).
