"UIC" printed on folder icon

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum. Wondering if I could get some help!

I have some standard folder icons with the letters "UIC" printed over them. I know this has something to do with NTFS settings but I can't figure out what...

Your help is appreciated.

What? Why no image? I've never heard of seen such a thing so I doubt it is some "NTFS settings"

Oops sorry I'm new . See attached.

The reason I say it's related to NTFS is because when I fiddle around with security permissions I can get it to disappear... but I can't figure out what the logic is.

I never seen that....unless you have altered the default themes and whatnot of Windows...

I don't believe I have. Don't know what I could have done. I'll take a closer look and if I come up with something I'll post it.

Those hidden system folders should be with a little gold lock at left bottom of the icon by default
(NOT what you have).

I guess, somebody/something had modified that on your computer.

as well as antivirus scan to make sure everything is ok.

Absolutely nothing found through Google. Which permissions settings make the UIC (UI¢?) go away?

Looks like mystery is solved.
My guess - this computer belongs to University of Illinois at Chicago and they have changed system icons.

The overlay is definitely appearing/disappearing according to the following:

Lock icon: This means that you have a private item in a non-private directory. This indicates that it is a file or folder with special permissions & that the user is restricted from performing some operations on that file or folder.

As Neutron16 pointed out the overlay icon should be a padlock instead of "UIC".

The thing is that I have absolutely no connection to UIC so I'm completely baffled as to how that's happened :S

I also ran SFC and there were no errors. I'm going to run a virus scan...
