Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-2CN laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I didn't have a recovery disk and have had to do a new installation as the laptop was running slow and it was a last resort. What I didn't realise is that I needed a recovery disk as I have since found out that the product key I have is for Toshiba OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

However, I have used an Acer OEM Windows Home Premium 64 bit recovery disk. I stupidly thought that I could install any Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installation, as long as I typed in the product key...

I wasn't prompted to enter the product key on installation, but when I tried to activate windows I get error code 0XC004E003. Below is my report as requested if anyone can advise what can be fixed?

Thank you in anticipation :)

You cannot use an OEM_SLP Key with any other media than the proper manufacturer's Recovery media - for installs with anything else, you MUST use the Key from the COA sticker on the machine's case.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

Thank you for your reply,

The product key that I had used was the key shown on the bottom of the laptop. There is no key shown in the battery compartment, other than a LAN MAC sticker and a Wireless LAN sticker.

Just to clarify, if I used a Windows 7 recovery disk that wasn't OEM (if such a thing exists? - excuse my lack of knowledge as I'm not technical, sorry) with the product key shown on the bottom of my laptop, would this work, and if so, do you know where I can get a copy?

I've been quoted £40 from Toshiba's website for a recovery disk for my laptop, but I want to avoid having to pay such a large amount if possible.

Thanks.

Just a quick update. I have now formatted the hard drive and installed a genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit disk (non OEM). I get the option to put my product key in during the installation, but when I go to try to activate, it still won't activate.

I really don't see why I should have to pay for another licence, when the one that came with my laptop should still work.

Any idea how I can get it to activate?

Again - the installed Product Key is NOT the one from your COA sticker.
It's the one pre-installed by the manufacturer, and ONLY valid when used with the Recovery media, on the proper machine.
You MUST use the Key from the COA sticker - as I said in my first response.
