HELP!:

I am having an issue after Win7 updated. Logged off my machine and noticed that it was installing an update. So far, the updates have been flawless, but when I went to turn on my computer Thursday morning, no boot.

Ran Startup repair a couple of times and got:
> Problem event Name: Startup Repair
> Problem Signature 01 : 6.1.7600.16385
> Problem Signature 02 :
6.1.7600.16385
> Problem Signature 03 : unknown
> Problem Signature 04 : 21201050
> Problem Signature 05 : AutoFailover
> Problem Signature 06 : 5
> Problem Signature 07 : NoRootCause
> Os version : 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
> Local ID : 1033

  • Tried booting from Win7CD and doing repair as well - no luck
  • Tried doing an F12 (Dell) and doing hardware diagnostics - no problems found
  • Tried doing a system restore to a time earlier (about 2 weeks) and finally got it to boot into the opening "fireflies", and the next screen however, the next screen was black and only contained the ease-of-access, the "Windows 7 Home Premium" text and the shutdown options. I could not log in.
Unfortunately, I have client files on this computer as part time I do graphics/illustrations and web design. I am extremely frustrated.

Thanks Jacee! I am going to try to add a second SATA drive, Install Win7 on that and see where I can get. I also have a ticket open with M$oft. I'll report back whatever I find out.

after lurking on other forums I found that using the Win7 install disk, clicking command prompt and typing in the following did NOT work... (just to narrow it down I'm providing it here)
Type bootrec /fixmbr [enter]
Type bootrec /fixboot [enter]
Type bootrec /rebuildbcd [enter]
All were successful save the last one which returned "Total identified Windows installations: 0"

DRAT!

Update:

Okay, while I was waiting for Microsoft to call back, I installed a new 500G SATA drive and reinstalled Win7 on that one. I moved all of my old documents and settings over, and have installed about 80% of my programs, so I'm feeling less stressed.

We performed troubleshooting for about 3 hours Saturday and 3 hours Sunday w/MS... to no avail. The tech did mention something about Google Chrome installations and the fact(?) that he had fixed about 30 by removing Chrome.

I really doubt that Chrome is the problem ... too many people are using it and if that were the case, you would have heard about it before now... ;)

I wholeheartedly agree since we have several other win7 machines at work that I take care of - and most of them use chrome & firefox, and all of them had the same update.
