Unable to detect WiFi networks after reinstalling Windows 7

VistaKing -- below is my the message I just typed in follow up to my #17. As I am about to send it, I see your #18 and #19, and will check them out now (still thinking I might have goofed somehow on the driver installation?).
...............

When I try to extract (WLAN) after download, I get a message: Please insert the last disk of the Multi-Volume set and click OK to continue. I don't know what is being referred to.

However, this is the same driver that I downloaded from the Samsung site and installed (well, think I installed) yesterday.

I cannot explain why it extracted ok yesterday and not from the download link you provided.

However, I ran the Install Application file and got the message "This program might not have installed correctly"

I ran the Install (Application) file from the Driver folder. Turns out there are subfolders (9.2.0.500 and 10.0.0.54) with Install (Application) files too. I presumed the Install from the Driver file would automatically deal with subfolder applications that needed to run.

So I'm left thinking I might have the correct driver, but might not have installed it correctly.

Sure, I'll put it into Wordpad then on a flash drive and try to copy-and-paste it into this box.

In the meantime, we've added a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller that torchwood referenced but nothing referencing a Wireless LAN.

< sigh >

(of frustration with myself, of course)

I downloaded the file (again) but when I try to extract it I get:

"Compressed (zipped) Folders
Please insert the last disk of the Multi-Volume set and click OK to continue."

Suffice to say, I don't know what disk is being referenced here.

VistaKing:

If I understand correctly, you are referencing the three "Other Device", since they are the only three items with the :warn: symbol beside them.

When I double-click each of them, I get the same message:

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the decie information set or element."

Just curious, should not the WLAN you and torchwood are referencing appear here under Other devices, or above under Network adapters?

Ultimately, I suspect my ineptitude in successfully installing the driver may be the stumbling block here.

Don't double click on the devices that have the :warn: symbol on them but right click on them and choose properties . Once the window opens up click on the Details tab. Inside the Details tab click on the down arrow under property and choose Hardware Ids

Ok -- got it.

Coincientally, it turns out that Right Click > Properties yields the same screen as the double-click with the message:

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."

These steps should work

Open your Device Manager and expand Other Devices. Right click the devices ( one at a time ) and select properties.
Select the Details tab at the top and click the drop down menu under Property. Change Device description to Hardware ID's.

Sorry, VistaKing, I don't understand how I'm messing up the driver install.

There are two screenshots in the attached file.

One is the result of running the Setup application file in the main driver folder.

The second is the result of running the Install application file in the Driver sub-folder.

Ultimately it seems the problem here comes down to installing the driver. I cannot extract the files (see previous posting) when I downloaded it today (twice).

But the files in the screenshot are from yesterday's download.

Turns out the public WiFi site I am using closes in 5 minutes. I will return to this again tomorrow, though I'm still stuck with the driver install dilemma. Perhaps I will download a zip file extractor and try that part again.

If this were a game of chess, I think I would Resign and set up the pieces again.

note: leave everything default and keep clicking Next to install the program . PM me the user id and password . That will give me access to your laptop . You may remove the software once we are done.

   Note
