Unable to install drivers

Installed Win 7 64-bit on HP Elitebook 8440p; can not connect to the Internet network drivers not installed; downloaded 8 network divers from HP website to USB FD and copied them to my notebook; unable to install them using Device Manager. What should I do?

Being 64 bit drivers must be signed or they won't install if the drivers have a . INF file you can right click on it and choose install. What error did you get?

you might need a system pre-req such as the intel managment interface driver. Also can't hurt to run the Intel driver utility to see what it comes up with.

aside from that, there is no need to install 8 drivers. To figure out which network driver your machine has, do:

start > run > msinfo32 > components > problem devices

The results, which windows calls problem devices, are those devices on your machine that do not yet have the correct driver. The results will look something like this (this is from my system):

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B8&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_00

If you then google the first half of that string plus the word "driver", you'll see what you need. For instance if you google

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B8 driver

the first hit takes you to "Downloads for Intel® 82544EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller" which is my driver.

I followed your instruction and it identified the network drivers I needed - I download and installed the drivers, then connected to the Internet.
