Good morning lovely forum folks - nice to be back after many years.

I have been unable to make use of the desktop 'View: Auto Arrange + Align Icons" option to secure my personalized arrangement of my many desktop icons.

I have browsed this topic on this forum and online, and have found suggestions for inserting code (eeek! no, please!) as well as some freeware designed to manage this common issue. I am out of options for the moment.

Can you help? As always, many thanks. - D/Minnesota (where the winds do blow today!)

I couldn't find a way to save the desktop arrangement as a file that one can use to recover from unwanted changes.

However, if you periodically run system restore points or Windows backups, there is a way to recover an arrangement. Since Windows creates a restore point every time updates are performed, there should always be various versions available.

Open C:\Users\"your user name" and right click on the Desktop folder. Select "Recover previous versions." When I do this, it lists four versions.

Hope this helps.
