Hi all,

I carried out my usual annual clean out on my CPU and PSU fans and a general clean-up inside my PC - Packard Bell - model # unknown and installed back in it's housing.

When I switched back on again, I got the BOOTMGR missing message. Looked on the forum and followed the pretty comprehensive instructions, but when I got to the section telling me to press F8, I didn't get the ABO window, but the Boot/drive window.I've tried several things, including all the F numbers and have got now where. I thought I'd try see if I have got a System recovery on there, but on pressing F3, nothing happened.

I am getting desperate and hope, upon hope, that I don't have to do a Clean Boot, as I foolishly didn't make a back-up If I can open a disk drive, I have 2 on my PC, would choose Drive D: as my main drive and access all my data that's on Drive C:?

Many thanks.

Got it working again.

Well, got my PC working again! I was sat here wondering what I could try next. I started by checking the CMOS settings - why? Don't know, I just did. I noticed that all the IDEs and S-ATATs were showing up as not detected, so I took the lid off and noticed that the data cable to the first hard drive needed pushing in. I must have dislodged it when I was doing my housework inside this morning. Tried the PC out and all is OK. What this little exercise has taught me, is 1. Make a back-up before taking the lid off, and 2. my laptop is really, really slow. I only have the laptop if I need it for watching the rain forecast, so I won't get caught if I go out on my mobility scooter, and in case of emergencies.

Thatnks.
