Solved Unable to open .jpg files on a new Windows-7 install?

I just did a new / fresh install of Windows-7, using Simplex.
I also installed MS Office Suite 2007.

I have been unable to open .jpg files.
I tried the suggestions I could find in the Forum, some over 10 years old.
They did not work for me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the referral!

I'm still sorting things out after I messed up the Permissions.

At this time, I'd rather fix what I have.

If I use another application, I have a learning curve and I am truly a poor student.

In the event I don't get it sorted out in a week or so, I'll try your recommendation.

OK, what you need to do is try a different file viewer for .jpg files. As an experiment, try right-clicking on one and then left-click on "open with". It should show you a few options, just make sure you pick something besides Windows Photo Viewer.


If the file opens, then the next step would be to set your file association for .jpg to something else. What Roland mentioned above about Irfanview is a great idea. It is a great program and probably better than anything else you have currently installed anyway.

I have been using IrfanView and its plug-ins for several years.
There is rarely a day that goes by that I do not use it for viewing and resizing and editing photos and images.

I really appreciate and want to thank everyone for their recommendations.

The problem I am trying to fix was caused by me using a recommendation that worked flawlessly.
Flawlessly however, if used on the correct set of data.
I did it to myself.

My PC did not have the "Unable to open .jpg files" issue until I screwed up.
Since I know it worked before I screwed up, it should be fixable.
I am gun shy of 'other' software and the learning curve that comes with it.
As noted, I am a very poor student!

My current thoughts are, fix what once worked and call it a day.

One more time:
