Solved Unable to Open/Run Clip.exe

Greetings,

I have been trying to open the clip.exe program on my Windows 7, 64-bit laptop. I've gone in through "System32" and "SysWOW64." Whenever I click and attempt to open the application, a small box briefly appears on the screen and then vanishes. I get the same result when I run it as an administrator. I have tried accessing it through the "Run" application, too, with the same result (though, from what I've read on other threads, that normally wouldn't open the program anyways).

Any suggestions on how to open the application would be great. I'm trying to view copied images in my clipboard (I know I can access copied text with a bunch of other freeware programs, but those aren't what I need). And regardless of whether or not clip will show me the images I need, I would very much like to figure out why it refuses to open properly.

Thank you!

That's not what it's meant for:

Code:
>clip /?

CLIP

Description:
Redirects output of command line tools to the Windows clipboard.
This text output can then be pasted into other programs.

Parameter List:
    /? Displays this help message.

Examples:
DIR | CLIP Places a copy of the current directory
                        listing into the Windows clipboard.

CLIP < README.TXT Places a copy of the text from readme.txt
                        on to the Windows clipboard.

Try Karen's Clipboard Viewer Says it's for XP but works fine up to Win 8.1.

Thank you for the response, Ztruker.

Unfortunately, the suggested program doesn't quite match my needs. There is something that, hopefully, is still currently sitting in my clipboard that I'd like to access, and Karen's isn't showing it.

I'm still curious as to why clip.exe won't open, though. So any other help on that is still being sought.

I found this on google https://code.google.com/p/clipboardviewer/

Whether it's what you want or need is another thing but the clip.exe isn't a GUI application. Ztrucker was displaying the commands used in CMD. It's to copy CMD output commands onto the clipboard.

Still confused? http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/5182-tip-use-clip-exe-manage-clipboard-cmd.html

Intel Gigabit CT (PCIE NIC) and Thinkpad T61p,
Thank you for the further clarification, Prof Kerfuffle. I'd been reading about clip.exe on a few forums and evidently misunderstood the purpose of it (in one place people had said it was the alternative to XP's Clipboard Viewer, and elsewhere someone else was having trouble opening it the way I was and the responders were confused by it not opening, so you may be able to see my confusion on this).

The second link redirected me to the homepage, so I don't know what the thread was that you were linking to. Oh well, though. I guess I'm out of luck with what I was hoping to access (I downloaded the clipboard viewer from your first link and it didn't have the image I was after).

Did you click on each of the tabs in Karen's viewer?

Do a Google search for clipboard viewers, lots available.

Uninstall Karen's and try this one: Save.me: Your work. Safe.

Click on Default under View to see what is currently in the Clipboard. Has other capabilities as well but does this very well. Showed me both text and a .jpg I copied.

Thank you, again, for all the help.

I did check all of the tabs in Karen's, and I've downloaded Save Me. The image seems to be long gone, though. It's still not coming up. I figured it was a long shot.

Once again, thanks for all of the help. Hopefully the next time I lose an image, I'll be able to retrieve it with this latest program.

Their is another alternative.
In cmd prompt just highlight the part you want to copy and paste or the whole thing and right click when done highlighting.
Then open Note Pad right click and select paste.

Unless you have installed a multi-level clipboard program, only the last thing you copied to the clipboard will be available.

I believe the SaveMe program saves everything you copy to the clipboard in files under the Data folder where SaveMe runs from. It has to be running for it to work of course.
