So long story...

This morning, I logged into my computer and noticed that I didn't have my normal "admin" and "guest" accounts. The guest account turned into "Other user" account, and the picture got deleted.

So, I went into the Control panel of the guest account, manually entering the login name as guest. In there, I tried to change the picture and stuff back to what it was, but no luck.

So, I went into the admin account and clicked on the guest account, and editted it from there...Again, no luck, but, there is where my troubles started.

Somehow, this change affected my main Admin account and effectively has locked me out from reaching approx 5,000 photos and 20-30 movies of my 1.5yr old boy.

I went through the whole process of recreating my admin account, thinking that by doing so, it would allow me to keep the old files (since I did say, YES, save files). However, when I attempt to get into those files via the restore, I get the attached errors. I am logged into my machine as an admin...but, it must not be matching up to something in my old admin hashkey?

Thanks Maguscreed - I tried both things. The dos prompt results: Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.

The take ownership thing is one screenshot...

The other screenshot...I cannot log into my "Benny" account (which is the admin account) from the Windows splash, I can only log into Admin or Dean's House. However, I can run things as admin...

I am tempted to delete my Admin Account (which is a normal account) and disable the Dean's house, but then I might not be able to get into my computer at all.

Click the download button on the tutorial screen, and follow the instruction to merge.
This should give you a new option when you right click on the folder to allow you access.

Apparently, the restore point worked, but it went into my guest account rather than my admin account.

I found the pics (finally :) )....going to clean install this thing after I pull out my backup drive

Thanks for the help! I need to keep a good eye on these forums!

Thanks, will do. I'm going to reinstall windows on my ssd drive. I already pulled all files from my C drive and put on my F drive (D&E are mini drives, that for some reason I keep)... my current C drive will probably be my third backup, G drive, after I get the SSD up and running

Yep, there's not much to match that feeling you get when you've lost all your data.

Moral: Back-up regularly!

A LOWLY LAPTOP!
Yeah, I need to find an external backup drive that will auto-do things for me. And yes, losing all those pics of my kid for the 12 hours that I did was very stressful.

Can I ask how your user accounts got messed up like that? Did it just happen?

When's the last time you ran a virus scan? What anti-virus do you use?
