I recently got into a phase where even safe mode would fail to open. So using Puppy Linux I managed to save my data. However now when it's time to reinstall Win7, the CD won't load. I get only two options which I get even without loading the Cd -
1] Startup Repair (Which apparently never ends)
2] Start Windows Normally (something like that)
My boot options are proper and my hard drive n cd drive works that I know for sure since I used the puppy linux cd. I also dont get the "press any key to load from cd".
What am I supposed to do? I just want to format now.

Welcome to 7 Forums.

Try starting your computer & when it ceases to go any further, load your installation DVD into the DVD drive & then shut down the computer by holding in the start button until it shuts down. Wait a 10 or 15 second & then restart your computer.

If you have the DVD drive as the first boot option as you mention in your post, then it should boot from the DVD & begin the installation process.

Check the Win7 DVD"s condition to make sure it's not scratched or dirty.

Try setting the HDD to boot first in BIOS setup, then trigger DVD to boot using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first screen.

If it won't prompt to Press any Key, try another DVD burned from a fresh ISO with the tool provided in Steps 1 and 2 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If that fails write the same ISO to flash stick to try booting it under USB, Removable or HD's.

what i do is press f8 on a asus board and f11 on a asrock board that gave the choice of choosing booting to the cd .
sorry about my spelling am french

Then your dvd drive is not seeing the Windows 7 dvd.

Does the drive see other dvd`s ?

Where did your Windows 7 dvd come from ? Is it retail ? Did you make it ?

Please describe in exact words.

And you`re certain you have the dvd drive listed 1st in the boot order in the bios, or you are pressing the proper 1 time boot key while the bios is loading ?

Yes used the Windows disk before twice or thrice. Have been a frequent victim of malware or viruses until I discovered malwarebytes.

You need to stop downloading garbage ;) and install Microsoft Security Essentials too.

The only answer I see for you is to find a working computer with a dvd burner and download the iso file and burn it to a dvd as Greg has suggested, and try installing windows with that.

Or possibly find someone that might lend you their Windows 7 dvd to test.

If you have used this dvd on that pc in the past, I have no idea why it won`t work on it anymore, as you`ve said it works fine on other pc`s.

By media I mean, a cd, a dvd, dvd-R, dvd+R, what brand etc. What do you have Linux on ? A cd ?

My Linux is on a Sony CD-RW. And yes after my original McAfee expired I did have Microsoft Security Essentials. :) Where can I get iso file for win7? Can give a reliable link? Reliability is the biggest issue on most sources.
