I have been getting this error when trying to edit the host file under the following folder
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host. Just trying to put in Null ip addresses in 127.0.0.1

I keep getting permission not granted errors, in other words it is telling me I do not have the necessary permissions to save to this folder and gives me an Access Denied. Also to other system folders as well even the Program Files folders and some other less in my mind harmless folders. How in the H*;; do I give myself full rights to my entire box. I am no dummy and am careful as to where I go. I am not just trying to do this to experiment. But I am so sick and tired of these nanaer nanaer nanaer errors when it is My computer not theirs.

Sorry for sounding so brutal but it is out of frustration. So now that I am off of my soapbox and back down to earth does anyone have any ideas on how to do this. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you all in advance for putting up with my little rant there earlier I meant no harm just frustrated!!

Just save it somewhere else for example on your desktop. Then drag from desktop to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc . UAC control popups asking for administrator permissions.... allow it.

The error is normal, since non-admin users (and those who have UAC) do not have write permissions to the hosts file, and many other system-protected locations.
In addition to what Kaktussoft said, you may alternatively open notepad as administrator (or whatever editor you use for editing the file), so it gets the necessary permissions to save to it directly.

Ahhh makes sense about the save somewhere else then open in notepad and save to system32. However I am not getting the UAC warning as I have all that turned off. Also I am an Administrater User, Yes I know that is different than a true administrator but still I figured that would not be an issue. All in All I am going to try this and see if it does work. either way thank you all for your tips

Mucho appreciado
