Unable to save images from Internet

When I try to save a photo from the Internet, I get the error massage "The file name is not valid" even though is a .jpg file.

This is happening after my computer got infected with a virus. I installed the PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Everything else is running smoothly, except this problem.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Thanks.

Try saving the image with a different name!

Welcome to the Forum mdg1525!

Try running an additional scan with Malwarebytes free. Your computer may still be infected. Update the data signatures before running the scan.

Some sites are disabling the right click option to "Save Picture As..." and "Copy". When attempting to save or copy a protected jpeg, etc you might get a warning that "This file is protected" or "Not for public use" or "Invalid file name", etc.

If you're sure the photo you're trying to copy is truly in the public domain and you're not violating any copyright restrictions, try using the Windows 7 Snipping Tool.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials and do a full system scan.

Also as suggested, get Malwarebytes and also run a full system scan.

As stated above, some sites do disable the R click save function.

Instead of R Click copy, try just dragging the image from the browser to the desktop, that works in most cases.

Also, if the problem began recently, you can try a system restore as suggested. If you know when the problem began and you are able to, restore your system to a time before the problem.

Which browser are you using? IE8 and firefox both will allow you to drag most images directly from the website and drop them into an open folder in explorer or to the desktop.. If you're using internet explorer and you're no longer able to do this, try resetting IE to default settings: Tools>internet options>advanced tab>reset

Thanks everyone for your help. I did the restore system and it works fine now. I also tried dragging the pictures into the folder with great results.
