Hello folks.

In Windows Home Premium 64bit we encounter this problem on a machine after trying to uninstall a norton product manually.

The norton software led to serious problems of randomly emerging BSODs.

As system uninstall did not work we researched a tutorial on how to manually uninstall the soft.

It can be found here:

Enterprise Support - Symantec Corp. - How to manually uninstall the Symantec Endpoint Protection client from Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 2008 R2 64-bit

Everything worked smoothly until the last three steps of the routine failed (12.-14.):

We can not uninstall/delete the wireless network adapters as described. After clicking "uninstall" there is the window that asks for confirmation (to uninstall) but after clicking "yes" the device manager window simply refreshes - and the device remains unchanged.

Disabling the affected devices does not help either since we get a "limited connectivity" error when trying to connect to our router.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Thanks so much.

Wow, Norton is such a mess. I can never recommend anyone use their crappy software.

Try manually uninstalling the driver with the following steps:

  1. Click the Start Orb, and in the search type "view net connections" and hit enter.
  2. Find the wireless adapter you need to remove and right click it and click Properties.
  3. Click the Driver tab.
  4. Click the Uninstall button

Let me know if that works.

Hey doubled822,

thanks.

I tried your solution - but to no avail.

After that it struck me and i tried to uninstall all network devices in the device manager - even the ones unaffected by norton. That did the trick. By uninstalling the working devices the "norton doubles" dissapeared as well.

Thanks again. I hope that i can contribute to this place some time in the future...

Best

Hehe. Yeah. You are right of course - norton is quite a beast.
Would never install it on one of my own machines...

Cheers!
