I've been given this laptop which I know that has a genuine Windows installation, but it's been giving this error since August and cannon update anything anymore.

Some additional test found in some threads here. Results are in italian, but where you see impossibile it's pretty self-explanatory, if something else is needed translated, just tell me.
As asked in another thread, it's running Norton software, but only one specific for backup afaik. AVG is the antivirus.

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.
