Solved Unexpected downloads?

Recently Iv noticed there are a lot of downloads in my 'downloads' folder, some of these I only looked at on facebook, fairly sure I didnt click on them. I sometimes download things and am aware of it loading ect, but im sure there are hidden ones creeping in.
Any idea how to prevent it?

Some downloader programs will warn you about a file that is about to be downloaded on your PC. Also security programs will provide this service and ask you if you want to authorize it or block it. Look around there are lots of them out there.

I think now it might have been clicking on photos ect in Facebook to enlarge them, it seems this is a download.
I have a skill of being able to work it out just after I post the question!

Photos wouldn't download to your computer unless you right clicked on them and clicked "save as".

Everything you see when reading an online web page is likely to have been downloaded to your machine, that's the way that the internet browser has always worked. These are temporarily stored on the local hard drive

The browser takes a set of instructions found on the web page in HTML, or Java, or one of the many other mark up languages, and displays the resultant page locally. The resources for the web page, Images, Video, etc. are also normally served from local copies, (a lot of video is now streamed rather than downloaded, but this is as much to do with copyright protection as any other reason).

If these images are visible in the Pictures folders then there is likely a mix up with the storage locations as they would normally use a specific internet cache folder

Some browser do have cache in the PC, as to store like pictures.
They prefer you to download and view, to release for others.
Hence, sometime you may see the same webpage, as it is stored in your PC.

Some website would politely remove their link (webpage cache) upon exit.
Some browser do have setting to use the cache webpage (which is not updated) instead on download &or refresh the webpage.

Android also used this method to store pictures, mostly.

Some time ago I deleted 'Used Guns' from my favourites, seems to have helped the excess! There are many photos on the site.
