I have the following setting for my power options:

1. Low battery action: sleep
2. Critical battery action: hibernate

Unfortunately my laptop never goes to the sleep mode. It directly goes in the hibernate mode.

Once I resume from hibernation the laptop shuts down automatically after coming to the log-in page.

Check your power settings. What levels have you got set for low battery and critical battery? In percentage terms, critical needs to be set at a lower value than low.
