Unidentified Network / Identifying - continuously trying to connect

Have just moved and my ISP is now Comcast (from Verizon). In the new location I am connecting through a router (Cisco E2000) and Network Switch (Monoprice 8 port). Desktop is Running Win7 64 bit. When trying to connect I get the "Unidentified Network" spinning that I have seen others report. It seems to be an issue between the Desktop and the Switch, as I can connect the desktop directly to the router (which works), connect a Laptop (running XP) to the same cord that the Desktop is using (works fine). I've tried disabling IPv6, netsh winsock reset, updating NIC driver etc. Help please!

Here is the ipconfig /all. I can also post the ipconfig from the laptop connected to the same cable (which works) if that would be helpful for compare.

Thanks Roderunner. Unfortunately, no luck there. First of all, seems a little different then my issue, as the "Identifying/Unidentified Network" is the only one that shows (not two networks as the picture shows). I did try the addition of the default gateway (192.168.1.1) in ipV4 and reboot, but to no avail. Also as per the document disabling/enabling the connection does not temporarily fix the problem either...

Keep the troubleshooting coming!

Assuming that the switch has power going to it then the problem is the switch obviously enough.

Well, the switch works fine with the laptop plugged into the same port/cable where the desktop just spins on Identifying / Unidentified network. So I'd think it's the desktop configuration, or at least some sort of incompatability between the desktop/NIC/switch.

You might want to try using a different Ethernet cable in that case. Switches are usually just plug and play.

Maybe if you can post an actual screen shot of your ipconfig/all I might be able to spot other problems.

Thanks for the help -- have tried 4 different cables that work with other devices. No luck. I've updated the NIC driver and reset the router to factory standards as well...

You aren't getting anything from the router here. Everything you mentioned here points to the switch being the problem so trying another switch might be an option.

A friend suggested to set the speed on the NIC down to 10 mbs (from Auto). It connected right away -- 100 mbs does not work, even though the card is supposed to be 10/100.

So am guessing it is a card issue, which is an easy enough swap out. And in the meantime I can still work at 10 mbs

The 10/100/1000 switches are much better. I assumed you had this working at one time so didn't think an adjustment would help.

It is a 10/100/1000 switch. I had never used the desktop with the switch before, but the laptop connected to it fine at 1 GB...

That must be a very outdated driver on the desktop or a very old machine because 10mb is very old standard and slower than molasses, even with that the auto negotiation setting should work.

You might want to look around for an updated version of the network driver for the desktop to get it up to speed.

Desktop is about 3 or 4 years old I think -- NIC should be at 100, but is not working at 100. Is Intel 82562V-2 10/100. So it should work at 100, but doesn't. In the process of trying to figure this out, I did update the driver to a Oct 2011 version (the most recent available), but still won't connect at 100.

Am assuming this is likely a problem with the NIC... In the meantime, at least I have connectivity now!
