Here is my problem:

- cannot gain Internet access

Signs:

- unidentified network/exclamation point
- error when attempting to use Firefox (web browser)

Details:

- Internet works fine on other systems (currently on iPhone)
- Realtek system
- do not had access to system itself
- public Internet
- WPA2 encryption (security code is correct)

Tried:

- uninstalling adapter
- uninstalling drivers as well
- turning off DHCP
- turning off IP Helper
- disabling Bonjour and any counterparts
- googling a lot
- turning off firewall
- looking for McAfee (not found)
- uninstalling Norton
- Windows troubleshooting
- disconnect/reconnect
- disable/enable
- turning off IPv6
- turning off IPv4
- updating driver software
- turning 802.11d on/off
- getting frustrated
- being patient
- setting IP to that of iPhone
- setting alternate static IP
- allowing for dynamic IP
- route delete 0.0.0.0
- other route functions
- "secpol.msc" (could not find)
- scanning for hardware changes with device manager
- resetting winsock catalog
- reset int ipv4 and ipv6 (whatever that was...)
- searching for way to make network private
- giving up and restarting

Have not tried:

- asking on forums (doing it now, duh)
- headdesking (it's not my desk....)
- downloading alternate drivers (yeah, I WISH I had the Internet to do that... lol...)
- killing myself (I need to tell everyone online first... JK)
- giving up permanently (last resort)

Do hopefully with all my poor jokes we an agree that I am kind of desperate for some suggestions? Preferably new ones that work. :O

- crying

Welcome to SF,

What happens if your try to go to Network and sharing center, under the name of your network connection it should say Public network, then change it to Private or Home, whichever is applicable?

Have you also tried lowering your network Security from WPA2 to WEP? If it works, switch it back to WPA2, see what happens.

No, I do not have that kind of control over the network security.

how come? if its a home network you do just through a http interface, and if not as its business see your admin.

usually this issue is related to drivers and/or wifi settings channel and other things, try changing ssid and your channel also to make sure not on with next door, asuming u can change it, i cant see why not.

The Internet is public; it is at a hotel.

I am also unable to understand the rest of your typing, and as a result I cannot try anything you said...

If it is a hotel network, and you can't get access, you should ask the hotel for assistance.
