I'm setting up a new computer and having problems getting on the internet. The connection worked at first but was very slow. I changed Ethernet cables to see if that was the problem and now have nothing.

The error that I am getting is:

"Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP Configuration

I also have Norton Internet Security running which could be part of the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you tried disabling norton?

Worth a shot.

If that doesnt work go to network and sharing centre.
On the left you'll see an option "Change Adaptor Settings"
Right click on your adaptor and click properties.
Left click on the IPV4 (Internet Protocol Version 4)
Then click on properties.
If it is not already set, then change it too Obtain IP Address and DNS automaticly.

If that doesnt work open Command Promt (Windows key+R)
Type CMD>Enter
Type IPCONFIG/ALL>Enter
Then copy it here:)

Its not showing up that you are connected to a router?
If you have one is it old?
IPV6 could be interfeering, you could try disabling that.

Minotaur, thank you so much for your help!

I'm using a new Apple AirPort Extreme router. Maybe that is part of the problem.

I unchecked IPv6 but that didn't work.

More often than not your router comes with an installation CD,have you loaded it up?
It usally sets your pc up with the router.

I did a quick google,it should come with some Airport Utilty?
