Solved Uninstall Linux and reinstall Windows 7

Hello,

I have an old netbook which had windows installed originally. I thought that I would like to experiment with Linux Ubuntu. I don't like it...so how do I change the Linux Bootloader back to windows so I can reinstall windows 7. I have the Windows 7 install disk (not an upgrade disk). I also have the Ubuntu Disk. As always thank you for your time and patience.

I searched several YouTube sites but was unable to come up with the definitive cure.

You need to find out where to access the bios on your netbook, you can change the boot order from there and change it to CD-ROM, from there you can install windows by inserting the w7 disc and following the on screen prompts and entering your product code etc...

Basically ... you don't! The Windows bootloader needs to be installed in a Windows-compatible filesystem, and since you're running Linux, the filesystem in use is incompatible.

When you install Win7, it will overwrite the small amount of GRUB code in the MBR with Windows code so that Windows will then boot.

However, it's possible, if the entire drive is formatted for Linux filesystems, that the Windows installer will not let you install. IF that is the case, then boot with the Linux media, run GParted, and use it to remove all the Linux filesystem partitions. When you then reboot with the Win7 installer DVD, it should let you install to the now blank hard drive.

Find command prompt on your Windows 7 installation disk and run these commands:

Diskpart
List disk
Select disk n (where n is the number that was given for your disk in List disk)
Clean
Create partition primary
Format fs=ntfs quick
Active
Exit

Then install windows 7 into that partition. And don't worry about the bootloader. It will be there.

Thank you all for your input/recommendations. I solved my problem by changing the MBR and deleting GRUB...then did a clean install of Win7, this erased the previous OS (Linux). Thanks again!!
