Solved Unknown software exception 0x40000015

Well, I downloaded Microsoft Safety Scanner and it is now scanning my laptop. Also, I managed to uninstall Bandoo. Then when I checked msconfig, it states that the manufacturer Data Manager is unknown now. Does this mean that it had been uninstalled completely from my OS?

Generally, I would say yes.

Now I have a question: Do you know how Data Manager by Bandoo was installed on your system? The reason I ask is since you found it as an installed program, then you really don't need to run the MS Safety Scanner for this issue. I suspect you read the article posted on the Microsoft Community website and decided to run the scanner as noted there. That was only required if the software hadn't been installed, which in your case isn't applicable.

No, I really don't know how Bandoo was installed in my system. Also, when I uninstalled the item, it showed that it was installed about 2 months ago. For 2 months I had no problems but when I started removing some toolbars from IE9, the problem appeared.

Sometimes a software program will surreptitiously install additional programs. This seems to be happening more and more lately. As a safeguard to this behavior always use the "custom" install feature, which will generally provide a notification about any other installations and provide a checkbox to approve or disapprove of it.

My guess is that the scan did not show any negative results, right?

My guess is it will come back clean, unless there is some other infection. When the scan finishes, please post the results.

Well the scan is not even half way complete yet! By the way, is it a good idea to cancel the scan now or I should just have the patience to wait for it to be completed?

Yes, I will most definitely post the results.

Also, I would like to add that I have been using Norton for 3 years now and don't seem to have any major issues with it. But when my current Norton subscription ends, I might switch to another anti-virus software based on your earlier comments about Norton.

Do you have any ant-virus software that you would recommend?

:p

No harm in letting the scan finish, just in case there is some other infection. The AV programs I usually suggest are as follows;

Avira - Either free or paid edition
Avast - Free is the one I would suggest
Eset - Nod 32 there is no free version
MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials - There is only a free version

I do not recommend using an AV Suite; i.e., the anti-virus program includes additional security software, such as a firewall or email scanner. Just download the basic AV portion without the extras, then add MalwareBytesAntiMalware for extra protection.

There is a small caveat regarding MSE, it failed the latest AV-Comparatives testing. I am not all that concerned about it, but I do add additional security by using MalwareBytesAntiMalware (MBAM) real time protection. See the following link for more details about MSE;

OK, the scan is completed and there are no problems whatsoever. I would also like to add that my system seems to be working fine now at start up and so far, I am not experiencing any issues.

However, in the msconfig start up tab, the old program Data Manager by Bandoo Media is still there left unchecked. So I guess that it is just OK to leave it alone, right? But is there a way to completely remove it from msconfig? Just a very minor issue. That is all. If it is not possible to remove that item completely from start up, it is fine by me.

There is no problem leaving the entry, but if you want to remove it, see the following link;

Let me know what you decide and if everything is ok.

Thanks for the kind help. I used CcCleaner to remove the start up entry and everything is back to normal now.

Solution to error message

I got the same message. Thought I had to do a fresh install of windows. I replaced the motherboard on my HP Z800 and it fixed the error. It could just be hardware.
