Windows Seven handles memory management very differently than XP or Vista. Let me try to illustrate.
With older OS's as RAM usage became higher, the system would sometimes slow down while the memory was being cleared to make room for something else - like a new application being opened. Sometimes the system would even hang forcing a reboot. This does not happen with Seven.
With Seven, unused RAM is wasted RAM. Seven is designed to get the maximum usage and performance out of RAM. When Seven detects that RAM is getting full, it will clear some RAM by writing to the page file. It does this smoothly, rapidly, and quickly. You never even notice. This was definitely not the case with XP.
Look at it this way, you are in a lush setting with lakes and rivers. You can drink all of the water you want, swim, take four showers a day if you wish. Plenty of water. Now you are in the desert, you have five gallons of water to last you five days. You will mange that water and not waste it. You will drink slowly and will certainly not use it to bathe. This is the way Windows Seven manages RAM. When there is plenty of RAM, Seven uses it. When RAM starts getting full, Windows will clear what it needs and keep right on going. The user will never notice.
By using a memory management program, you are forcing Seven to manage memory differently than it is designed to do. While this may lower RAM usage, it is not necessarily efficient and can actually make the system slower while it clears memory and writes to the page file frequently. Because Windows is using 65% of the RAM does not mean it is inefficient; it means Windows is using available RAM for the best performance of the system. It will write to the page file long before it reaches the point of bogging down.
Right now, I am using 54% of my 2.5 MB of RAM. I have Outlook running with two open emails I am working on. I have two instances of Firefox open. One instance has six tabs open and the other has two tabs open. Plus I am running a homegroup network and three gadgets. I have never seen my RAM go beyond 67% and Seven's use of the page file is small and not frequent. In short, Windows does an excellent job of managing memory and system speed and performance. A third party memory management application is not needed and can adversely affect performance.
