unsecured network will not connect

so my girlfriend bought a new computer a toshiba sattelite brand new with windows 7 and it has internet connection problems. It only connects to the internet in the dorm which is unsecure but with limited connectivity there is no router in the dorm but it is their internet they are not borrowing it from someone else. her roomates can connect with windows 7. It also will only connect with limited connection at her house and it always says that the correct connection key is missmatched. I am going there tomorrow with my laptop to try and figure it out can you help me / any suggestions

Yep

Turn off encryption (passwords)
disable firewall and AV (JUST TO TEST)
check to see if she is running homegroup or workgroup

Check to see if she has a win 7dvd to do a repair install
