Updated from 32 bit to 64 bit Ultimate, now saying invalid activation

Hello,
I'm using a computer I built myself two years ago, back then a friend of my brother who works in IT assisted with the build and installed an OEM copy of windows 7 ultimate 32 bit he had via USB, the copy was genuine and was activated. Earlier today I decided to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit after hearing that a 32 bit key works on a 64 bit installation.

I attained an ISO for 64 bit windows from here Protip: Install Windows Using Flash Drive : buildapc and found the product key for my copy of windows using SIW software.

I formatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7 x64 successfully, however in the system window it says "3 days until automatic activation. Activate windows now". At first I thought I may have entered the key wrong, so I clicked 'change product key' and re-entered the key, upon doing so I get the 0xC004E003 error, saying that license evaluation failed.

It gives me the option to contact microsoft, but this just leads me to a dead end microsoft help page, no number for phone activation or anything.

If I click on activate windows now I get 3 options: To buy a new product key, entering a different key or to "Contact Microsoft to help resolve this problem" which again just leads to the dead end help window, I DO NOT get any option for phone activation (I've tried running slui.exe 4, still no option).

Buying a new key would be tolerable, but when I click the option to buy a new product key it takes me to the windows validation page, validates and then says:

"Welcome to Windows!

Because Windows installed on your PC is genuine, enjoy the security, reliability and protection it provides."

Then offers me security essentials, as if my copy of windows is already completely fine and activated, it gives me no option to purchase a new key.

So if I can't buy a new Key and I can't activate with my current key, what am I supposed to do?

You have an OEM_SLP Key from an Acer computer on a Retail motherboard.
Such Keys are not valid on home builds - and COA Keys cannot be transferred from one motherboard to another.
You MUST purchase a new license for Windows 7 - if you want to save money, buy Windows 7 Pro, rahter than Ultimate - I'd be willing to bet that you'll never notice the difference, unless you have specialist needs. (the two big differences between Ultimate and Pro are BitLocker and MUI language installation)

But then why did it activate and work fine on my computer for 2 years using 32 bit version? Either way, as mentioned before:

The MS Store www.microsoftstore.com will happily sell you a Key/download or Key/Media combination.

If you had a previous install with the same Key on the same motherboard, then it can only have been activated by using a hacker's Activation Exploit - which caries all sorts of risks in terms of reduced security and potential malware.
