Solved Updating IE9

I use the "ohwhattheheck" process a lot.

Looks like resetting the notification for this thread worked. I received my note the same time mars posted.


I deleted the CONFLICT Folder and copies of the flash and sw.inf files that were in the main objects folder.

Followed the installation instructions for IE/Windows under General Information here: Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows After installation I enabled in add-ons, closed IE and restarted the OS.

Started IE, opened IE Options checked Objects, there was no CONFLICT file or reference to flash in the main Objects folder.
It has been verified that it was installed. I can see the movie and the dynamic box is filled with the pertinent information.

Check yours now: Find version

One thing I notice is when I try to play these on youtube, they play, but I don't see the video there only when I see them posted here?

Is that some type of file association between IE9 and YouTube?

Just a thought and then i have to log off.

When you are on you tube, you might be running a youtube player, outside of youtube, you're probably just using Flash.

So how do you fix that? Not sure, but will check back and try to help, if needed.

Maybe I missed it, but did you follow the Flash uninstaller instructions?

• download the uninstaller
• exit all broswers / apps that use Flash (IE, FF, AIM, games.....)
• run uninstaller
• delete contents of the four Flash folders:
  --> C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
  --> C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
  --> %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
  --> %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
• Verify uninstall
  --> Restart computer
  --> Check Flash status

Then you'll have to install Flash again.
Try downloading the full package (9.13 MB) instead of using the stub.
- Step 1: Windows 7/vista/XP/.....
- Step 2: Flash Player 11 for IE
untick the cross marketing offer
download and run

Manually cleaning up the folders and restarting is something easy to miss. I can't tell you how much time I spent on a similar problem quite a while ago. I just missed those steps in the instructions or was reading a different troubleshooting page or both.

- Do not use ActiveX filtering, (tools -> safety)
- Enable Flash add-on,
- Use 32 bit browser

YouTube HTML5 Video Player - not a solution to IE9 / Flash issue, but you get to play with HTML5

Interesting thought bart Do you think it may be because I don't run java?

The only thing i missed was deleting contents of the four Flash folders:

Nah, I don't run Java and I'm fine on Youtube, but it did cross my mind a few times. I also thought about Shockwave player and Air. They used to be tied to Flash, but I don't have either on my machine - so I ruled them out.

Yeah, follow the uninstall directions - start to finish and consider using the full pkg download.

If it's still not working..

I don't know how much you configure on IE, but you might consider defaulting your IE 9 security zones and restoring advanced options. The final consideration would be to reset IE.

Note: I was editing my post to include what Youtube suggested when you posted, so it might not have been in the list when you read my post.

I'm not sure that I have anything left after this - everything keeps going back to what I already posted. I'll be out most of the day Sat. I'll check in the evening to see if I had any epiphanies during the day.

Epiphany 1: Is it just Youtube? Try The Daily Show and Star Trek part 1 | part 2- both have players.
Epiphany 2: Could HTML5 be part of the issue? Try leaving the HTML5 trial on Google if you're part of it, remember to join again if that's what you want.

Been working on this youtube problem for about two un/installs this morning, it finally boiled down to the popup blocker.

Even though I had it off I had to add www.youtube.com to the allowed list.
There was still one video that only played audio, but I jumped around to about twenty others and they all played normally A/V both.
By then I lost that one and couldn't find it to re-test it.

When I installed Flash back on FF it took right off and started playing video and audio. Must be something about security with IE9.


Now I have to figure out why FF will stop responding on initial opening, close it and open the second time and its okay.

1.) Just saw your post, TDS, and ST both played normally A/V both.

2.) That HTML5 looks interesting, I will be checking that out.

Edit: I did mention popups way back in post# 55. But.... just checking the setting wouldn't help, you had to manually add youtube.

There's that mystery bit somewhere in IE that's making Flash a bit wonkey - perhaps other things will clarify. You'll be surrounded by angry dwarfs, an error will appear and say "Here is the problem - just enable the xyzzy option"

No, I was just goofing. The text based role action game ADVENT (Adventure) from the early days. You can download a Windows version here. That's a direct download link - the wiki page gives away too many cheats - better to be frustrated and figure it out than to know the answers - similar to problem solving. We used to read the code for the cheats - FORTRAN on Prime Computers.




Memorable lines from the game are:

• Rub Lamp:

Your registry edit nugget is interesting. MS regularly releases Kill bits through WU. I checked the value in my registry and it is set to zero as the Adobe reference suggests.

To uninstall Internet Explorer
If you're trying to uninstall Internet Explorer because of an issue with the browser, first check to see if a solution is listed in Internet Explorer 9 Help and How-to.
The following instructions apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

1. Click the Start button
   
   , type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates in the left pane.
2. Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.
3. Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.
4. Click one of the following:
   • Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).
   • Restart later

Note
After you uninstall Internet Explorer 9, the previously installed version of Internet Explorer will be available on your PC. It isn't necessary to reinstall.

I know this thread is marked solved and this information comes late - but..... if all else fails, someone following might consider uninstall. One word of caution - even though the MS instructions tell you that the previous version of IE will automagically be available, you should have another browser on your system.
