upgrade hard drive

I have a dell with media direct,and i want to upgrade my hard drive,will 7ultimate make an image of my drive with the media direct on it? I have two os on hard drive, but dont know where the dell dirct partition is. THERE is a small partition a front of drive c. I want to use system image from external hard dive that I created with windows 7

I'm not totally sure about this, but I don't think the native Windows 7 image backup will image the whole drive.

You may want to look into either Acronis or Paragon. They will both image full drives. They both also have free versions which will do what you are trying to do.

If it doesn't offer this, then use one of the other apps mentioned. You'll need to make their boot disk to do the reimaging to new HD.

WD and Seagate have excellent free Acronis cloning and imaging apps on their Support Downloads webpage if you have one of those. The Manual is there with download and easy to understand.
