Upgrade Home Premium to Professional? (7)

Like... Format C? Or, just put the Windows 7 Repair Disk in and let it do it's thing?
I've never done this before, just want to make sure I do it the proper way.

Also, is there a way to do it so that I don't have to install 200+ updates, afterwards?

I found some other threads in these forums regarding clean installs and updates afterwards...
Pretty sure I've downloaded and backed up everything I will need to an external drive, so... I'm going to give it a go, wish me luck.

Yes you`ll have to install all the updates, Windows 7 is a breeze to install now.

Just install the security updates, when you`re all done with them, then you have to/ or should read the description of every optional/important update, you do not need them all.

OK, I seem to be back up and running with ONE major exception...
Now, my 3D modeling program WON'T EVEN LAUNCH.

I get...

Error code 14001 - this application has failed to start because its side-by-side
configuration is incorrect.

From what I can gather, it's related to Visual Studio, or C++ but I have no idea how to fix this... everything I've tried has failed (I get errors that the "update" doesn't apply or is blocked)

Visual Studio 2008... 2013... 2014... 2015... plus a bunch of different C++ redistributable packages...
WHERE DO I START?

*EDIT* - I got it running, but now I'm back to where I was before - crashing after a few moments.
For what it's worth, if I run the program in 640x480 resolution, I can GO LONGER before crashing, but it eventually crashes. I even downloaded and installed a trial version of the program, and it still crashes.

Well, I finally figured out what my issue is...

It turns out that the integrated graphics card on My Dell Inspiron 560 is UNDERPOWERED and no amount of Windows or Driver updates is going to fix that. I'm going to have to upgrade the hardware.

However, I am STILL HAPPY that I've got a "clean" version of Windows running, as my old version was pretty f**ked up.

So, although my main issue still exists (until I upgrade hardware), I am still VERY GRATEFUL for all of your help.
I've never done a clean install, before, and I learned a lot of helpful info here - I could have never done it without your help! :)

Well, I'm hoping that even just a basic, 512 MB VGA card (PCI-EX 16) supplement will be enough (300W power supply)
