Upgrade to Windows 7 home premium or any other

i have windows 7 starter and 2 GB of RAM
i am wondering what change will it bring if any when i upgrade to windows 7 home edition or etc?
cause i dont want the overall speed to be any slower..
what i mean is
if i upgrade to a whole windows version, there'll be more work to do and plus there'll be more software i would be installing like microsoft office 2013 (2010 is currently installed, 2013 does not run on starter)
so, more work, lesser speed... right?
the overall performance would be slower than before....
already sometimes the RAM usage out of 2GB is 1.96GB when a little more work is being done at a time
like using the browser with more tabs and stuff..
(not always is it that high)
just wondering if the windows was full, then the RAM usage would be more, resulting in lesser speed and performance

the question is
Is the theory above true or there are differences? Can i upgrade and be happy?
And what about upgrading to windows 8? -> the start button on my netbook has the windows 8 logo

Windows 8 would be a much better choice if you really want a good upgrade. Upgrading to Home Basic or Home Premium would result in needing more memory because you're already using 1.96 GB out of the 2 GB that you have installed. Windows 8 has a much smaller footprint, so it is the way to go - but only if you wouldn't mind the big change to things like the new user interface.

I would first go to staples, office max etc and play with win8 before you decide. See if you like it.

As long as you have a reasonable amount of disk free space installing more applications will not impact memory usage or performance. The applications you have running will impact performance, not those you have installed. Applications that are installed but not running require zero memory and zero CPU time. Do not confuse disk space with RAM usage.

One benefit of upgrading the OS would be the ability to access more RAM, 4 GB with a 32 bit OS, assuming your hardware will support it. Windows 7 Starter is limited to 2 GB.

I've been seeing people say it's noticeably much faster because of how small of a footprint it has on the system. I think some people are saying that it's like the difference in speed between XP and Vista.

Anyway, Windows Home Basic and Home Premium will just be using more memory right from the start, so it will probably result in not having enough. I think Windows 8 uses less than Windows 7 Starter Edition. I'm not sure though.

Windows 8 has a number of enhancements that should improve performance. The only real downside to Windows 8 is the new user interface. Some people like it, others do not.

your netbook was never meant to be a workhorse ,was meant for surfing the net and doing emails ,and the most they can handle is 2gig of ram
