Upgraded to W10 from W7 and now want to rollback to W7.

My "backup" is an External 3.5" drive that was created using Western Digitals ACRONIS software.

The "backup" was created before my system was hacked.

I felt confident I was OK as I had "backup".

Now that I need it, when I attempt to re-Clone the "backup" to overcome the hack, I get the RED X.

I do not know what the RED X indicates but the re-Clone is not complete.

When I look at what was written by the re-Clone attempt, it appears to be older data, like perhaps the last Restore Point taken.

If the backup is an otherwise exact clone of the original un-hacked drive, then you should be able to connect that external drive to another PC, assert a drive letter to it using Disk Management, and at a minimum be able to access all of your files.

Another thing you could try it seems would be to take the hacked drive out of your computer and replace it with the clone and see if it boots.

I'm not sure why you would need to "re-clone" the backup of your original drive?

In the end, it may be that someone at the Acronis community can have ideas for you. Even as a "free" WD version of the software, there are people there that have forgotten more about this stuf than I know. You would have to register to be able to post (email/password):

You should find the "About..." info for your WD version first. Then look here and select "Older versions" if none of the others apply:

Hacked PC only accommodates 2.5" drives.
External Clone drive is a 3.5" drive.
The RED X, as shown, is from my attempt to Re-Clone the External 3.5" back to the 2.5" drive.

Mike I don't work with Acronis very much, but instead of using the Clone mode can't you copy the "good" partition to a spare 2.5" drive and try that?

Again, before you give-up on this be sure to try the Acronis community forum for help. A couple guys there have forgotten more about this stuff than I can ever know.

I hope they get back to you. If not, I would still encourage you to register with the forum, and pick a forum that is closest time-wise to the WD version you haved used. Or I'd say pick ATI 2019 or 2020 forums since you're most likely to get attention there I think.

I agree the Acronis Forum is the OPs best option. The support tickets are probably reserved for paid customers.

I have posted several times on the Acronis Forum. Steve Smith many times was the first to respond. I suggest the OP be patient because the non-official responders like Steve Smith are volunteers but will try their best to help.

The Forum has a MAJOR problem.
If the Forum Member, ME, cannot get Microsoft Office to work, how can the Forum expect to notify the Member of potential Fix's?

There appears to be no way to get or receive a response via TEXT or PHONE!

What version of ATI do you have?

I have always bought ATI perpetual. I started with 1 copy ATI 2015 but upgraded that to ATI 2017. I also bought a full version of ATI 2017. ATI 2017 had a bug where option to automatically delete old backups wouldn't stay selected. That caused backups to fail because the backup drive would be full. I had to manually delete the old backups to continue.I bought ATI 2018 for my main computer because the bug was fixed. Also, they added the ability to back up my phone. I stopped using that when I bought 3 copies of ATI 2021. ATI 2021 was a big disappointment. It's interface was painfully slow and the last update broke phone backups. Acronis supported was no help. I talked them into replacing the licenses with 3 of ATI 2018. I am now running 4 copies of ATI 2018. No problems with ATI 2018. I have used the restore file and whole disk several times with no problems.

I'm not familiar with that forum, but generally speaking, members respond directly on the forum to questions asked on the forum. If you are dealing with Support, that would involve email. Although many forums have built-in email right on the forum. I'm not sure why Office needs to be working right in this case. Do you mean Outlook? Or Live Mail? If your email client is the problem, I suggest you switch to Thunderbird, or some other email client. Thunderbird is really the best option, though.

No problem. I'm in my early seventies myself, so I'm not far behind you.

I think you should consider using a web-based mail. I use Proton Mail, because it is pretty hardened in terms of security. Which would be even more important if you are using Windows 7. But there are many others, both free and paid. Then you don't have problems with sever name, ports, etc. Very easy to set up and use. You might want to do a little research and hopefully you can find one that appeals to you.
