Solved upgraded to win 7, onboard sound driver not installed/reconised

I'm using an old time computer. I recently upgraded it to win 7 from xp. The sound didn't work. I checked in device manager and it said that it was a multimida audio controller, but has no driver. I tried driver update, didn't work. If it helps my motherboard says n1996 on it.

Open CMD prompt copy and paste the following into it >>> wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer,version,serialnumber


Post back the result ...

Product:

Serial number and version are blank

Install it in compatibly Mode ..

ok I went to the downloads page and too the driver section, selected windows vista as it was the closest. I ran the setup program with compatibility mode and it installed fine. It restarted my computer but nothing had changed. I still have no sound

I do not see any Drivers for sound under the Vista section ? ...

on the page there was a bios tab and a drivers tab, I clicked the driver tab and it asked me to choose an operating system.
