Hello, I am wanting to upgrade my Toshiba Satellite L750/0T1 from Windows 7 Home premium 32bit to Windows 7 Home premium 64bit.

I understand that this process will wipe all my data, and I am wanting to do a clean install during this upgrade.

I have also checked that my laptop is compatible with 64bit.

First of, would I be able to upgrade using my existing Windows 7 Product Key?
Or would I have to buy a new Windows 7 Home premium 64bit OS with a new Product Key?

I bought my laptop from DSE a few years ago and was wondering if they would be able to make a deal of some sort that would save me from buying a new Windows 7 Home premium 64bit OS.

Would there also be anyway for me to keep a copy of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Disc?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated :D.

No I don't, I don't have a disk for 32bit either.

My laptop came preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

I have tried doing an ISO file, but when I run it there is always an error about SPWIZENG.dll and autorun.dll?

Would I be correct in downloading the 64bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium and using my 32bit product key when I do a clean reinstall?

Is there a process for downloading the correct ISO file and burning to a disk that I could follow, to make sure I do it correctly?

Read the 1st tutorial, it will tell you all you need.

AFTER reading the tutorials, ask any questions BEFORE you start.

You don`t have a 32 bit key, you have a Windows activation key ;)

And please download the network drivers for your computer and put on a cd or a flash drive (usb stick) before you start, so you can install them and get online once you`re done with your new install.

For the first step would I download a 32bit ISO or a 64bit ISO (I assume 64bit since I am upgrading?)
i.e would it be the x64 or x86?

Also which one of these would be the correct one to download?

  • Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 U (media refresh)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 (old)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium x64 RTM
  • Windows 7 Home Premium N x64 RTM
  • Windows 7 Home Premium x64 RTM (not bootable)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium N x64 RTM (not bootable)
I have also noted that some of the downloads have not been consistently available. Would this affect me downloading the ISO files? Would I have to use a software downloader of some sort?

Thanks, would it also be best to still use the Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool?

Or do you have a better suggestion?
I know some people have said burning a disc at a lower speed works best.

The Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool is a simple way to burn a bootable DVD or make a bootable USB stick. I don't know why the call it a download tool.

Awesome! I managed to successfully burn and run the Windows 7 Setup x64 version!

Looks like I'm fine from this point onwards. I'll post anymore questions about this as I think of them.
Thanks for everyone's help :D.

Hey, I do actually have a question about Microsoft Office 2010.

I have it installed on my laptop at the moment and I'm wanting to reinstall it when I do my clean install. I have the product key for Office I just need a specific download link. Reason being because I purchased it using Microsoft's HUP program. I have found the exact link download I need, but the link is broken. Would anyone else know a alternative download link for this? The exe file I need is X17-75371.exe (new SP1) aka Office 2010 Professional Plus x64.

Here's the download page I found (some links are broken)
Office 2010 Direct Download Links :).

Or would I just be able to run the 32bit version instead? (I already have the installation for 32bit)

Running the x64 (64 bit) edition also requires an x64 Windows edition. The advantages of Office x64 is a bit better performance. Disadvantage is that it doesn't support most third party plugins and add-ons. Microsoft actually discourages the use of the x64 editions. So unless you're absolutely sure you need an x64 edition, you should choose x86 (32 bit).
I think MS would rather you use the 32 bit version anyway.
Yes, it will run on a 64 bit system.:D
