upgrading to Windows live mail-questions

If I save my Windows Mail (Vista) email files and contacts to a cd/dvd and import them to Windows live mail in Windows 7 will my current windows mail folder struture be imported correctly and show up in the new mail app.?

Export your accounts, contacts, and your e-mail and then import all of them back into Mail. I think that is the best you can do.

Another way is to backup the Windows Live Mail and Contacts folders but this method is probably undocumented. It is only something I've experimented with.

I don't have any Vista systems to check on anymore, but I would assume you could export all of that, and then import it back into Windows Live Mail once you have it downloaded and installed in Windows 7. I've been using Windows Live Mail, and I'm quite happy with it.

Would anyone know how to setup Windows Live Mail to share directories on a dual boot Win 7 and Win XP installation? WLM is installed and active on the XP side, easily seen from the Win 7 side. I'd like to move the folders to a drive that will survive the eventual removal of XP.

Your contacts will still be seen on Live even if you are booted into a clean install of Windows. The only thing you would lose is what is stored locally by importing WLM into OE or Windows Mail. Otherwise your contacts, mail, drafts, even sent mail is stored online.

SkyDrive is another option for storing things online as well. When trying to get things transferred onto a virtual machine running on a flash drive someone posted a guide for the Gladinet Cloud Desktop which could be the thing you are looking for. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19765-upload-windows-skydrive-desktop.html

With the local folder seen you can upload things you want to backup for later use.

I keep getting answers to questions I'm not asking. Let's try again. I have a dual boot, xp plus Windows 7. Before adding Win 7, I migrated from OE to WLM. WLM stores everything on the C drive of this PC. Now that I have the dual boot set up, I'd like to put WLM's files where both XP and Win 7 can access them. I know I can change the storage location in WLM. What I don't know is what happens when I do. And what happens if I change locations from XP to a second drive, then go into WLM on Win 7 and point there. Are messages moved by the first action, and perhaps wiped out by the 2nd?

First off with two separate versions of Windows you will have two separate user/admin accounts. Even with two of the same version you would run into this as well where you will end up with one location for each.

The SkyDrive opion allows you to store things online by way of WLM there where you can access the same from both in one common point. That's why that suggestion was made there.
