UPnP Broken - Does not detect all devices

Hello, I have two Windows 7 computers, my Desktop, and my Laptop. I also have UPnP capable router, Xbox 360, and networked printer.

Everything used to work fine, but I just noticed the UPnP on my desktop seems broken. I changed my motherboard and CPU about a month ago on it, so I think that may have something to do with it.

My laptop is able to detect all devices fine, but my desktop can only detect my laptop. My laptop can stream music from my desktop, but no other devices can. I have tried completely turning off the firewall, so it isn't that. My desktop can see my Xbox in the network map, but doesn't list it in "Network"

Any ideas?

Check your running services and make sure the UPnP Device Host service is running. It should say Started and Automatic.

It is running and set to automatic. The computer can detect other Windows PC's UPnP servers and can detect the Xbox in Network Map, but it won't show anything other than Windows UPnP servers (media sharing) and Windows Media Player (remote control) in the Network folder.

Are all PC's set to the same workgroup? File and print sharing installed and checked in the network card properties?

You also might want to open the Network and Sharing center and have a look at your homegroup and sharing options > advanced sharing options.

All in the same workgroup. The PCs can contact each other fine and stream music from each other. They can detect Windows Media Player and have the option to stream to but that fails. Xbox is seen in network map but not in "Network" folder on desktop.

How much different is the new motherboard compared to the old one, in terms of hardware? If its a different chip-set etc, did you re-install windows or just swap hardware and hope for the best?

Sandy Bridge from Core 2 Duo. Quite different. Windows 7 transitioned perfectly other than this.

Personally I would have done a clean install with the new hardware. This problem strikes me as one of the things that can happen when you don't. My guess is there are some left over drivers etc thats messing things up. I'd recommend a clean install at this point.

SWEET. Installed SP1 and the problem got fixed along with it.
I had a feeling SP1 would fix it. Probably reset something and then it got reconfigured correctly.
