Urgent help required, windows 7 doesn't startup

When i started up the computer, it will load past the windows 7 logo then when it comes to the desktop, it would load for 2 seconds or so then it would just restart. The desktop is blank, the only thing visible is the mouse cursor. After seconds of viewing the blank screen, it just restarts and it repeats itself. Startup repair doesn't work either, it says it has failed to do the automatic repairs. I cannot boot into any kind of mode as well, safe mode doesn't work. last configuration mode doesn;t work either. All of the modes results in the same restarts, I would see a blank desktop with the mouse cursor in the middle then it restarts. I haven't done any changes to the computer recently, it was working fine in the morning then all of a sudden, this problem occured in the the afternoon. I've unplugged all hardware and tried starting up with just a ps/2 mouse and keyboard, but the problem still persists. I've also ran memtest86, and I passed all the tests, no error, so I guess the ram could be eliminated. Could this be an hardware issue or an virus? I don't want to resort to formatting because all my work is in there. I've only owned this computer a little more than a month. It's an acer desktop with amd anthlon 2.7, nvidia geforce 9200 and windows 7 home premium 64bit. Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Take battery out, unplug, press start for 5 seconds. Then try again.

how do I do this? do you mean the battery that is located on the motherboard? Sorry, i'm computer illiterate.

There is a battery in the desktop. That requires you to take apart the unit, ground yourself, remove the round battery and then install it back in.
Someone told me how to do this but my hands are too big to get in small places.

I do not think that the battery has to be removed from the desktop. Just unplug and hit the stop button.

Are you referring to the stop button on the back of the power supply unit? my power supply unit doesn't have a stop button

For 5 to 10 seconds hold down the normal start button. May not work. Success is about 50%

It's the button you turn your computer on and off with.
Hold it down like rich said for 5-10 seconds and let it turn itself back on.

That is correct, but first hold it down for 10 seconds while unplugged to reset it. Then follow advice of howling wolves.

It does not work, I just tried it. It still restarts once it comes to the blank desktop screen. Should I try the battery method? what can be causing this kind of problem?

ON a desktop do not touch the battery, which is the CMOS, take that out you lose all setting and everythig. I will research see if I can find another solution.

Can get into Bios setup by tapping any of thes keys during reboot?

Esc, F1, F2, F8, F11, or Del ?

Then see if there is a bios setting for automatic reboot ?

richc46. i'm unable to do that because I can't reach the desktop at all. Not even in safe mode or normal mode. My friend has checked the bios settings, he couldn't find the automatic reboot option.
