Well, if you have a HP laptop, there's something which is called "Startup Repair" or "Recovery Mode". It automatically fixes any startup problems. Try hitting F11 as soon as your laptop starts up.

Good Luck!

Ubuntu clobbered your Windows bootmgr which you have to fix: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/104341-bootmgr-missing-fix.html

Make sure the Windows boot partition (the system partition or C) is set as 'active'.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply . it is not giving me a bootmgr error . When i Boot the laptop up it goes straight to Ubuntu , if i hit the ESC button then it goes to a blank black screen with the the word "boot" blinking , I tried to type in C:/ or wstindows but noting happens .

Just a wild guess but is they maybe a command promt that I need to type in for it to start windows up ? or is they anyway of changing the start up settings from the BIOS menu .

Sounds like you have installed the grub to the hard drive.

This should get it going again.

When you come to the section of using cmd I had to replace SYS with my drive letter, F:.

Anyway give it (give both a go) a go & if you get stuck post back.

When i start up the computer it goes straight to the ubuntu menu , if I hit the ESC button it goes to a blank screen with the word "boot" blinking , I tried to type in C:/ and windows but it keeps saying cannot find kernal . Is they maybe a code or command that I can type in that will make it boot windows up ?

Another way if you have a bit of download data to go for the month download Boot Repair.

I've used it to repair the mbr after ubuntu.
