Solved USB 2 reported as USB 1

I had to install a new HDD in my PC to install SP1.

During the install, I accidentally dislodged the front panel USB cable.
After finishing the HDD install, I discovered that the front USB sockets weren't working.
A brief search revealed that the cable had become unplugged, so I reconnected the cable.

Windows now believes that my front USB sockets are USB 1 (the rear USB sockets work correctly).

According to my motherboard handbook, ALL USB connections are USB 2.
Device Manager reports that my drivers are the best available.

What do I need to do, to force Windows to reinstall the correct drivers?
Do I have to uninstall all of my USB drivers and then reinstall them?
Do I need to delete Registry entries?

An aside.
How do you determine which USB socket corresponds to a given entry in the Device Manager?

Most likely you need to look into your BIOS to see what are the settings for your USB. Depending on your motherboard, those settings may be more or less extensive, but even the totally truncated BIOS on my Dell has a setting for USB, where I can choose between "Full speed" and "High Speed" (which corresponds to USB2, I think, but the explains these terms right there, that's why I don't remember exactly). It's possible that due to the loss of contact with that physical wire you BIOS might have reset the USB setting to whatever it prefers as the default.

That seems to have done the trick.

Windows isn't popping up the "Your device could work faster" dialogue any more.
My transfer rate has gone from 3 MB/s to 24 MB/s.
I not sure how, but the front ports being disconnected must have screwed up my drivers.

Now if I could only work out why my batch file doesn't work properly ...
