I just fired up an old windows 7 VM that I want to get completely operational however usb 3.0 isn't an option under the virtual machine settings (workstation 12.5 is my platform). I know that there is a driver and I tried the most recent version but it said that my device isn't compatible. I have a 2008 r2 VM but it isn't recognizing usb 3.0 either. What do I need to do to rectify this? At least one new newer Windows version VM does show usb 3.0 as an option. I have a usb 3.0 card and I think that it's just a generic one although I don't know for sure and I haven't been able to tell from device manager on the host. System information shows "VIA usb 3.0 extensible host controller - 0100 (Microsoft)." How do I get usb 3 available and functional?

Thanks. I tried the link USB3_win7_2021.zip and I got an error that it's already installed. I haven't run this VM on this machine before and my last computer didn't have usb 3 so I've never installed those drivers on it before.

I think usb3 was implemented in version 8 in workstation have you updated the VM to workstation 12 in the hardware compatibility

Version 15 is the highest you can go for Workstation Player in 7.

Also, note this option in the screenshot if you have not already. It may come in handy in the future. Also, USB WiFi is suckery in VMware Workstation Player, i.e. it simply refuses to work. Maybe in Linux though. I have yet to try that.

Yeah I found that box but it only showed 1.1 and 2 until I updated hardware config to 12. Then I had 3.
