USB Device Gets No responce from windows

I'm a telephone tech and I'm trying to migrate from My Dell D830 with XP to My new Sony F1390 vaio Laptop with win 7 pro 64 bit. The USB ports seem to work normal with thumb drive, external Hard drives, Ipod and such. But when I try to plug into a Panasonic Voice mail or phone system with USB I get no response at all I have drivers but windows needs to see the USB device to use them. I tried in virtual XP mode with same results. The drivers are not in an executable install file. They are for Win 7 64bit. It works fine on my XP machine.

Now I'm confused. Precisely what are you plugging into a USB port? I'm no a phone man so I can't tell whether you are talking about hardware or what?

If it's hardware, have you been to the manufacturer's website to see if he has any drivers for 64bit Win 7 or other instructions?

It is a voice mail system and a Phone system you can program them through USB port. I have the drivers but I get no response from windows when I plug into either device in order to load the drivers.

Hello nolantech Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Your main problem deals with the network adapter and network settings. You will first need to take a trip into the the device manager and look under the network adapters tab or other devices if Windows hasn't detected anything when first plugged in.

The second place if you find the item for the adapter is working properly is the Control Panel>Network & Sharing Center section there.(see image attached below for example) You have to get the connection if Windows sees it active mapped.

That will show Local Access being connected following a few trial and error attempts at first. But once you are configured correctly you suddenly see a new prompt for select Home, Work, or Public where most simply click on the Home option on that. Note when installing 7 with the connection already plugged in you will see that when the installation is first finishing up.

Thank you for your advice. They were in the device manager and I was able to add the driver. Windows reacted this time when I plugged it in. I'm think it's because I added bionic_admins to my user account or enabled the Administrator account. But it worked that all that matters. Again Thank You.

You're welcome! It's typically one intial item that needs to be configured correctly to get 7 online.

When setting a second new case along with a couple of others on the same connection and then putting the main case back I had to go back over things again to see the connection re-established. You'll get the hang of it.
