USB Drivers and Universal Serial Bus driver errors in Device Manager

I recently purchased a Logitech USB headset, and it worked fine for the first few days I had it. I noticed, however, about two days after the purchase that it failed to work. My USB mouse worked fine, however, so I figured it was the headset.

I discarded the headset and continued using the built-in microphone. Later, however, when I had to restart my system in order to install an update, my mouse stopped working as well (they work fine on other computers). I looked to see what the problem was in the Device Manager, and my Universal Serial Bus driver was apparently damaged, as well as my Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller and my Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller.

I attempted to unistall, reboot my system, and then let Windows automatically reinstall the drivers, but they always fail to do so in the middle of the installation process. I then attempted to do a system restore the day before both the Windows update and then before the problems with the USB headset, but the problem persisted.

If all else fails, I might have to reformat, but I do not want to have to result to that extreme since I cannot salvage anything of value onto an external hardrive.

The PCI to USB Controller has the error:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

The OpenHCD USB controller has the error:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

The Universal Serial Bus USB Controller has the error:
The Drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)

The system cannot find the file specified.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.


I currently run on an HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC and run Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (64-bit)...

What should I do to fix this?

I downloaded the fix and ran the diagnostics. It attempted to fix the damaged drivers by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, it didn't work. It then suggested that I update them, but I had already searched for new updates for the drivers, none are available.

Thank you for these links, but the problem is not confined to just Logitech USB devices. It is a problem with all USB devices. It seems the problem has to do with the system itself, rather than the actual devices or their plug-ins.

Is there anything else? Perhaps providing the error messages?

As far as I have read from the links that I have provided I've seen something there is a problem with Logitech.

The only thing that I haven't attempted, according to the list of links you supplied me, is a Windows Repair. I will try that, and then get back to you.
