USB Keyboard keeps disconnecting seconds after its connected

Hi,

I have a razer blackwidow keyboard, and Im trying to flash the firmware. The problem is that my laptop keeps disconnecting it.

I have the update firmware open, so it will automatically begin when I plug in the keyboard. However within 5 seconds of connecting, it would stop and disconnect the keyboard.

Ive done abit of research and have tried disabling the USB Root Hub "automatically turn off device to save power", tried disabling USB Legacy support in bios and it still disconnects.

Currently my laptop is an MSI Gx660
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i7-740QM
12GB Ram
64bit OS

I just need it to stay connected so I can flash the firmware successfully to the keyboard. And yes I have also contacted Razer support but its pending.

One thing that comes to mind is that the firmware installer may be confused by the presence of 2 keyboards.
You might try updating the firmware from a desktop PC.

Also standard procedure: try different USB ports, in case there is a connectivity problem.
Some installers can't deal with some USB3 ports also.

Ive tried using my desktop and it seems to have the same disconnect problem.

The only one that did not disconnect is my spare laptop running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. It remains connected but sometimes the drivers fail to install / leading to an unknown device or razer bootloader with a code 10 error(device cannot start)

Why are you updating the firmware? Does it only disconnect during the firmware update process? Does that keyboard otherwise work OK?

Well it failed to update in the first place, so the keyboard has no firmware on it. To be able to use it I need to flash back the firmware, but it doesnt stay connected to flash it. Currently without firmware I can access the razer bootloader on the device by plugging it while holding down the fn key.

OK, to me it sounds like the failed flash has bricked the keyboard. I don't think it is a Windows problem or a problem with your laptop. If there is a special recovery procedure for a failed flash I would try that. Other than that I think you are looking at buying a new keyboard.

My main laptop that keeps disconnecting it will start the flashing process, and then it stops when it disconnects.

i have a spare laptop that has problems installing the driver for the bootloader mode. Its a hit and miss with the drivers installing. As of now, I have it working fine in razer bootloader mode, no problems. Now the problem is the firmware updater is unable to detect the device to flash it to

I can't help you there, I don't know enough about that product to comment any further. Do they have a support forum? If so you may want to look around there.

The stupid thing is that the one that can flash the firmware is the laptop that keeps disconnecting the keyboard

The one that does not flash the firmware is the one that stays connected.

Is it due to the windows version?
One is home premium and the other is ultimate

Is one 32 bit and the other 64 bit? Does the flash utility list any minimum system requirements or supported OS type stuff?

All are 64bit. The only difference is the version of windows one is home premium the other is ultimate.

And no, the firmware is compatible

OK. I don't think its a Windows problem. I'm thinking it's because the first flash failed.
