USB Mice and USB Keyboards not working, have replaced MoBo

Hello,
I am normally very good at fixing my computer but this problem has me stumped. My custom built computer which has worked for a couple of years now is having a major problem. I have tried several mice, including replacing the one that has worked for a good year with two separate USB mice, one wired, one wireless. I also replaced the keyboard which was getting a bit old with a new wired USB keyboard. The problem persisted so I eventually gave up and replaced the Motherboard. Initially the mouse and keyboard worked without a problem but then I moved back to university where the problem first started and it started again. What is more strange about this problem is that the keyboard works before windows starts, but not completely. I have gone into BIOS but there is an odd problem where several of the keys on the keyboard do not work, including the up key and f10, which makes saving any changes impossible. I cannot work out a way to fix this, unfortunately I do not have any remote desktop software installed on my desktop so I cannot fix it like that. MY last bet is to reinstall windows, although I'm not sure if that would fix it as the keyboard is acting up in BIOS. I have tried unplugging the desktop and holding the power button for 10 seconds, to no avail. If anyone could help I would be very grateful, thanks.

Maybe clear the CMOS settings. Your motherboard either has a jumper or switch to clear CMOS settings. Remember to properly shut down and power down your system beforehand. Try that and post back.

I plugged in a jumper and reset the CMOS, the keyboard still doesn't function properly in BIOS and there is still no response from either in Windows

Do you have any software for either keyboard or mouse?

No, but when I plugged both into both of my laptops they worked without any need for the necessary software, I got both of them from mates.

Do you have any other USB ports on your motherboard you can try?

Yeah, I've tried the front USB ports, made no difference

The first thing you want to do is isolate whether the problem is with the peripherals or the PC.
So borrow someone's known working keyboard and mouse and test to see if the problem remains.
You could also try your keyboard and mouse on the other system.

I've had a similar problem in the past. I fixed it by deleting and reinstalling the USB drivers.

I have already checked that, it is the computer, I mentioned earlier that I haven't got remote desktop installed so I cannot uninstall drivers as I have no working mouse of keyboard.

Hmmm. That is a challenge, isn't it.

Does that box have a PS2 connection?

That would rule out a USB problem. It's seems to be narrowing down to the motherboard.
You might want to double check everything you've already done.

Since I replaced the motherboard I'm very unsure about what the problem is. it could possibly be the power supply at uni that messes it up somehow, the problem first started and reappeared at university, although I'm not sure how it could cause this problem

I believe that some parts in your old mobo might be broken, causing keys aren't working in boot menu only (keys will work in bios and os).

I just get the feeling there is something missing here. Getting a keyboard to work should not be this hard. It seems like there must be an 'extra piece' to the puzzle in your setup.
