ok before I start I am a sys admin of over 25 years, my computer is stable and has been running fine for years, so please no level 1 stuff.

So I bought myself a new Gigabyte M6980X gaming mouse (same as wife's new one we have identical hardware, I custom build them myself for this very reason)

Her mouse works fine and my mouse works on her machine, no matter what I connect my mouse to, it ends up as an unknown USB device tagged G3.

Yes I do have the gigabyte ghost software loaded and no matter which connection or hub I use it just does not get detected correctly.

No entries in my event logs to do with this (only my vmware service issue causing error by vmware 11 works fine)

I am very stuck here and would appreciate any assistance form someone who really understand USB, registry or config files

forgot to mention already done the remove USB controller thing and reboot, same result and yes have latest released drivers from gigabyte for mobbo, I have a tardis usb hub with my current Logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the only other usb I have connected is my fitbit dongle.

Also my old TOM TOM does not get detected either but works fine if I use my old SATA HD so to me it's got be a registry of file issue, in my searches I just keep finding same gui stuff , not a detailed USB registry of file. config / inf explanation for win 7

The tom tom I can live with , it's the USB mouse that's driving me nuts

Here is what I have found in the registry, not sure how to track which is which, I tried to remove my Tom Tom one to see if that fixes that, but it won't let me remove

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Enum
10. The two subfolders beneath "Enum" of concern here are: USB and USBSTOR.

I'm not sure what a level 1 help is but if this is bothersome, I'm sorry.
Filling out your System Specs would be helpful to other members, but I think it's a level 1.

A couple of tutorials that are helpful.

A couple or so things I would check if it was my system.

1. Verify the bios was the same as the other computer.
2. Verify that the usb 3.0 drivers were installed. Windows 7 does not installed 3.0 drivers.
3. Remove the M6980X driver and reboot. Windows 7 generic driver shout give minimum use of your mouse.
4. I would be using usb 2.0 for mouse and keyboard. I can't type or move a mouse fast enough to even use all the speed of usb 2.0. I have found a few things that state they are 3.0 but work poorly in a 3.0 and work as they should in 2.0.

1. Don't muck with the registry

2. Just to be in sync with nomenclature, look like your mouse is detected but is listed in Device manager as an "Other device" - which occurs when device is detected but Windows can't find a suitable driver

3. So do you mean your Tom Tom isn't detected? (meaning you plug it in and nothing appears in device manager?) or does it also appear as an Other device when plugged in?

Right click the G3 in Device Manager->Properties->Details tab.
> Use the pull down menu to select Hardware Ids. Copy/paste the list of ids into your next post
> Use the pull down to select Compatible Ids. Copy/paste into next post also

I agree with ComputerGeek you shouldn't need to mess with the registry.

Hey Layback Bear!

Looks like we posted at the same time :) Your post reminded me I forgot to ask the op a question

@mrhamster
What about USB flash drives or external drives? When you plug them in do they appear in device manager and do they work correctly???
