This is a cheap eMachines(Acer) desktop PC, probably 5 or 6 years old, which seems to be about how long my hardware usually lasts. After being off for two weeks over vacation, the USB port on my backup drive failed tonight. I had a couple of other ports fail two years ago, never to work again, and in fact I found my old thread while searching. I checked all the things that I learned about back then with no good results. Is this likely a sign of a failing power supply and a common problem with these aging desktops? I'm thinking it's probably time to get a shiny new machine. I hope Win7 is still available. I'd like to see what you folks think.
Thanks,
Rusty

Okay, nevermind. It magically started working again this morning. I bet this old power supply is getting fatigued. It's time to open the case and clean it out anyway. Cool its innards off.
