Hi there,
Sorry for this, I don't know if I'm the right section but please let me.

I have bought a new Flash drive (1GB) to use as storage for my driver installers and application.
When I copy my files it seems to be alright and finished without any problem. I safely remove the USB from the Computer and shut down my system.
When I'm about to use it to one of my friend's PC and error came out. "Please insert Last Disk/Multi Volume Set...blah blah.." I click ok, but error pops-out again so I click cancel.

All of my files on the USB drive don't work or corrupted, folders are empty, some of the installers work, but with only size amounting from 1kb-800kb. I also tried using the warranty and replacing it with a new one but still same problem, I also tried copying these files to other computer and try if it will do the trick but no luck.

I also tried formatting my USB drive several times but no luck, even tried the low-level format as what stated to other forums but no luck. I don't know how to fix this, if I'm about to use the warranty again and same problem, I have to dump this USB disk.
So I really need your help. Thanks!

How are you copying the files to the flash drive?

Does it work on your computer after you safely remove it then reinsert it?

> normaly copy and pasting, I've also tried dragging files from the source to the USB.

>> Yes I've tried removing the drive and reinsert if to test if it will work, the USB Autoplay pops-out but folders are empty and files are corrupted, double clicked installers it just open and closes a "Command prompt".

thanks for the response.

File

I don't know what file you are working with. But just try this it won't take more than a second.
Open a command prompt and navigate to your usb stick and the directory in which your *.exe resides. Type in your file name and hit enter. Answer back and let us know.

I know this is to launch the *.exe program right? yes it successfully launch the program but not the installer itself, it just opened a command prompt and closes.

Files?

What are the files like? Is there a *.msi or an *.exe?

Test: copy a *.txt file to the usb stick and the navigate to copy and see if you can open and read it.

yes most of my files are *.msi, *.exe and *.rar some contained in a folder.
I tried to copy a *.txt file on USB, and it did copy, but can't read anything upon opening the file. I type in "testing" but when I opened it from the USB, it is all blank.

You have something running on the stick. Best to remove the data and wipe it using DiskPart Clean All to wipe it of all code including bootsector, then reformat NTFS Logical: Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command - Windows 7 Forums

You can do all of this with free Partition Wizard bootable CD as well.

thanks for this, I successfully do the DiskPart Clean All and finished successfully, but you mentioned that I have to format this as NTFS Logically, it's not on the drop-down list when using disk management to create a new volume (Simple Volume). only FAT and FAT32 is on the list.

Your stick may only support FAT32 as some do. With logical nothing can boot the stick. You might have had it bootsected (enabled to boot) somehow but Clean All wipes that out.

OMG! the problem is till there..is there any other methods or options? when I copy those *.msi, *.exe, and *.rar to the stick, same problem, files are either corrupted or missing.

Then I'd replace the stick as it's clearly bad. I use an 8gb Kingston Data Traveler for the past 5 years without a hitch (carrying it in a baggie in my pocket). In that time the price has dropped by half on buy.com.

well. thanks for your time helping me out, but as what I said on my first post, It got replaced with a new one using the warranty. So I'm thinking if there is some other problem that is causing this.

In that case I'd use their Tech Support to find the problem, or replace it until it works.

Sorry but this is apparently very rare or someone would have jumped. I offered the wipe option because it's what I do when bootsecting corrupts my stick on occasion.

sad to say, tech supports on USB sticks are not offered here on our country, they will just replace and replace and replace ^_^ anyway..I guess there's no solution for this. I even tried other USBs and find no problems copying my files.

I wonder if you can find an app that will format it NTFS instead of FAT32 to check the difference.

I'd use free Partition Wizard - installs in seconds.

While you're at it check the file system (once partitioned) and run a HD Surface scan.

If NTFS Logical is available, try it.

well, without using the disk management tools, I manage to format my stick into NTFS format, but still, same problem, I guess I'll just get this be replace with a new one.. Time for sleep, thanks! :)

Hi there, I just formatted the stick using the Partition Wizard you gave me into NTFS, the stick doesn't performs well, very slow. also run an HD surface scan and found 0 errors, It also passes the HD Tune Pro Test and found 0 errors on the drive. I think it's not on my USB, it's on something that I don't know.
