Okay so first off just want to let you know I'm very computer illiterate but I can follow instructions.
As far as I'm aware I have done nothing to screw up the computer, I turned it off last night and everything was fine when I turned it on this morning I got as far as the windows logo then the computer started a startup repair thingy.

I then got an error saying that the startup repair could not fix the problem, I clicked on problem details and got this message,

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: 21200260
Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 06: 5
Problem Signature 07: NoRootCause
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

I've noticed that Problem Signature 06 keeps increasing every time I run the startup repair.

Now I've had this computer for around 2 years but it belonged to my grandfather before that and I'm not sure it was treated well. I am also sure that there is viruses and stuff on it but if that is true they've been there for ages. I haven't changed anything on it recently and the last thing I installed was children's computer games so I doubt that caused the issue.

It's an ACER laptop that runs Windows 7 Home Premium and I don't know anything else about it.
As far as I'm aware I have no backup of this at all and I have no installation or repair disks for windows 7 (in fact I have no discs for windows 7 at all).
Could you please tell me how to fix it (if it's even possible) and what this error actually means (because I don't speak computer language).

Thanks :)

The first thing that popped up for me was that you received the system from your grandfather two years ago. My best recommendation is that you backup all your important data( Like e-mail, photo's and documents and whatever ells you find important) onto a removable drive like a large thumb drive. Then bring the system back to factory default. Meaning the system will be like it was new out of the box! To do this follow these instructions-----> Using Recovery Management outside of Windows

But I can't backup my data because I can't get into the actual system. I'm stuck in some kind of infinite startup repair loop.
